Abstract A novel simple plasmon filter based on metal–insulator–metal plasma waveguide is proposed. The relationship between the wavelength and the transmission of the filter is investigated by using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. Based on the mutual enhanced filtering effect of resonators, a filter combining double square ring and rectangle is designed. Compared with the square ring resonator structure, the minimum transmission is increased by 10.04% and 47.7%, and the filtering reaches 94.4% and 99.9% at 528 nm and 815 nm, respectively. This waveguide filter may become a potential application for the design of devices in highly integrated optical circuits.
