Abstract We have demonstrated a high pulse energy single-pass picosecond (ps) master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system of 1064 nm at a pulse repetition rate of 500 kHz. A 500 kHz, 32.38 μJ picosecond laser was used as the signal laser. Through a single-pass traveling-wave amplifier, a maximum output power of 35.7 W at a pump power of 100.6 W was generated with the optic-optic efficiency of 19.39%. The output pulse duration was 16.9 ps, corresponding to the pulse energy of 71.4 μJ, while simultaneously the beam quality factor M 2 was measured to be 1.36 and 1.32 along the x, y axis direction, respectively.
