Abstract The main contribution of this work is the multiplane measurement of temperature fields of fluid flows. We use a focusing schlieren system to fulfill such an objective. The optical system contains a color digital camera, an RGB off-axis illumination, and an uncorrected chromatic aberration schlieren lens. Three narrow depth of focus is obtained using an uncorrected chromatic aberration schlieren lens and an RGB off-axis illumination. Each plane of measurement is recorded on its corresponding color channel of the digital camera. This technique is utilized to measure hot air temperature issuing from a 13 mm circular nozzle. The two cases are analyzed at different temperatures. The temperature values obtained with this method are in good agreement with those obtained with a thermocouple.
