Abstract A selective UV shielding material based on photonic crystals structure is proposed in this paper, which composed of indium tin oxide, metallic silver and titanium dioxide. We investigate the optical properties of this structure in the UV to visible range by using finite-difference time-domain method. Furthermore, we have discussed the effect of structural parameters on the spectral selectivity of the structure. In addition, we find the (ITO/Ag/TiO2)6 structure can be transparent in visible light while high-performance shielding in UV radiation. Numerical results demonstrate that this novel material enable potential applications in selective UV shielding material.
