Abstract By building on the motivational process proposed by the Job Demands-Resources model, we explore the roles of job crafting and strengths use on contextual performance, with conscientiousness and openness as important determinants. A sample of medical staff with a diverse range of jobs (e.g., dentistry, psychiatry) was used to test the hypothesized mediation model and the predicted roles of consciousness and openness to experience. The results indicated that strengths use partially mediate the role of job crafting on contextual performance. Personality traits predicted increased levels of job crafting. Theoretical and practical contributions are discussed.
