Abstract In this paper, we apply a two-lane car-following model to explore each vehicle’s two trip costs and the corresponding total costs in one two-lane traffic corridor, where one is the travel cost, and the other includes the travel cost and fuel cost. The numerical results show that each trip cost and the total cost in the two-lane corridor are both less than those in the corresponding single-lane corridor, but the lateral distance in the two-lane car-following model enhances each vehicle’s trip cost and the corresponding total cost.
