Abstract Three new types of ZnO, Zn2SnO4 and Zn3V2O8 floriated hierarchical microspheres are synthesized via hydrothermal methods. The morphology, structure, band structure and photoelectric convention properties of three different type photo-catalysts are characterized and investigated in detail. It is found that all samples exhibit floriated hierarchical microspheres, composed of different kinds of nanosheet self-assembly. Moreover, the ZnO microspheres exhibit the best photocatalytic performance under UV irradiation among all photo-catalysts. The detailed photocatalytic mechanism for the ZnO, Zn2SnO4 and Zn3V2O8 floriated hierarchical microspheres is also discussed.
