Abstract Rabinowitch's article [1] offers an outline of synthetic connectomics where, in analogy to synthetic biology, connectomes are constructed. Rather than building connectomes in a computer model, say by observing artificial neural networks, the idea is to build in vivo biological connectomes. By building connectomes from scratch this proposal is different from approaches that aim to modify already existing connectomes found in animals or humans. However, there are constraints, technical limitations, and competing approaches that will need to be considered when building connectomes.
