Abstract It is a challenge to design and synthesize coordination polymers with high capacities as anode materials in Li-ion batteries at present. In this work, two compounds [Co 2 (ade) 2 (V 4 O 12 )(H 2 O) 2 ] ( 1 ) and [Cd 2 (ade) 2 (V 4 O 12 )(H 2 O) 2 ] ( 2 ) (ade = adenine) with high capacities have been successfully obtained through the sensible design strategy. In compounds 1 and 2 , Co(II) and Cd(II) are linked by [V 4 O 12 ] 4− anion to form 2D inorganic layers which are further connected to generate final 3D frameworks. Both compounds 1 and 2 show good thermal stability according to the thermogravimetric analyses. The electrochemical performances of the two compounds as anode materials have been studied in detail. The results show compounds 1 and 2 have high reversible capacities and cyclic performances in Li-ion batteries.
