Synthesis, crystal structure and fluorescent properties of indolo[3,2-b]carbazole-based metal–organic coordination polymers

Abstract A new 5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]carbazole-based bidentate ligand bearing two carboxylic groups, (3,3′-(indolo[3,2-b]carbazole-5,11-diyl)dipropionic acid, H2icdc), has been synthesized in two steps and then used for the construction of two metal–organic coordination polymers,… Click to show full abstract

Abstract A new 5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]carbazole-based bidentate ligand bearing two carboxylic groups, (3,3′-(indolo[3,2-b]carbazole-5,11-diyl)dipropionic acid, H2icdc), has been synthesized in two steps and then used for the construction of two metal–organic coordination polymers, namely [Zn3(dmf)2(icdc)3]·4DMF (1) and [Zn2(dabco)(icdc)2]·4NMP·4H2O (2) (dabco = 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide, NMP = N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone). Compound 1 has a layered structure, while compound 2 has a 3D framework structure. Both compounds display linker-based blue fluorescence.
