Abstract The coarse-grained model of polylactic acid (PLA) has been refined for applicability within an extended temperature range and used to investigate the mechanical and structural properties of uniaxially strained pure PLA and its blends with oligolactic acid (OLA). In the blends with higher OLA content of 40% segregation between OLA and PLA molecules was detected. It was shown that the elastic modulus and degree of ordering increase along with the strain rate. The values of the elastic modulus were found to be in quantitative agreement with experimental data. The coarse-grained approach can be used for simulation of PLA-based systems.
