Abstract In the research area of granular materials, the friction coefficients between a single particle and a container wall have a substantial influence on many research areas. The coefficients can only be measured from experiments. Here, an experimental method is proposed to measure the static and kinetic coefficients between a round particle and a flat wall. The method is based on dynamic analysis of a rolling particle along an inclined plate. The relation between the particle's acceleration and the inclination angle is used to derive the coefficients. Some round particles having different size and shape were tested.
