Abstract Nowadays, the incremental sheet forming process (ISF) constitutes one of the manufacture processes with greater interest. This is due to its great flexibility in the produced parts and the simplicity of the used tool. One of the current problems for the study and optimization of this type of processes is the difficulty to establish their mechanisms of deformation and failure. Simplified test in which similar sheet deformation phenomena occur, may be determinant for these studies. Several authors have carried out different tests to model specific deformation mechanisms that occur in the ISF, but none has defined a test in which all deformation phenomena occur. Bending under tension test has been employed to model the forces and deformations in drawing process. Therefore, a similar test, adapted to ISF, may be suitable for its study.
