Abstract In the cold forming process of steel seamless reducers, the material is strengthened by the action of the forming tools (die and mandrel) and changes in stress state and deformation. The tool used to produce the reducers must therefore have properties that take into account all the characteristics of the deformation areas. Therefore, we have used modern advanced surface treatment CVD technology by applying thin, hard abrasion-resistant TiCN layers on the tool surface. We have evaluated the coating morphology, roughness, micro and nano hardness.
