Abstract A forming process composed of pre-compaction and extrusion with counter pressure was proposed to improve the strength of bond magnets. The pores of the compact reduced by the flow and breaking of the powder particle during the extrusion, hence the density and strength of the products were improved. Nd-Fe-B magnetic powder was formed into a ring magnet by conventional compaction and the proposed process. The density of the magnet was improved to be 3% compared with that of compacted ones. The hardness of the magnet expressing the bonding strength of powder particles was improved. The radial crushing strength was higher than 60% from the result of the compacted magnet.
