Abstract Mainly, the real challenge in today’s industrial environment is the implementation of sustainability concepts in the production process. The concept of sustainability plays a vital role in the product life cycle. In spite of people’s growing awareness about the concepts and importance of sustainability, many academics also have focused their efforts on analyzing the main pillars of sustainability in the industry. Accordingly, the manufacturing companies also must be guided to implementation of sustainable policies in their production systems. From the author’s point of view, there are not many efforts and investigations that a comprehensive approach presents for the analyzing of production lines based on simulation and the cost assessment in three main pillars of sustainability, simultaneously. The complex interrelations between the aforementioned aspects in the production systems create a non-transparency situation for manager and decision makers. In this paper been tried, presents the summary of a comprehensive methodology for assessing productive enterprises based on a review of the concepts and aspects of sustainability in order to understand better its application in productive environments. The proposed methodology in this paper is composed of several computational levels; so that the intended levels have the different tools and techniques for calculation of relevant results. It is expected that the proposed methodology will assist to evaluate the production process of industries and achieve the highest performance in the sustainable production, in order to make conscious and sustainable decisions to reduce the negative impacts regarding environmental and social aspects, and to bring the economic growth and well-being of society for current and future generations.
