Abstract Most of existing sciences as automation, thermodynamic, etc. are based on theory of systems. Concepts and formalisms of this theory could be used on companies in order to improve them. In this frame, methodologies have developed for modeling and simulating company performance. Indeed, globalization has decrease European companies competitivities (for example: cost of taskforce). Industry 4.0 and logistics 4.0 are the consequence of this situation. Methods and concepts are defined for transforming companies and making them more competitive on the market. Industry 4.0 and logistics 4.0 concepts imply the integration of new technologies and organizations such as robots, cobots, tracking (RFID), IoT, Blockchain, etc. A framework, based on sustainability as the kernel of company transformation, in the frame of industry 4.0, has been developed in Icam (Engineer High school). This paper presents results of this application to a joinery with the objective to define a reference model corresponding to this activity sector. This reference model, in addition to a decision aided tool being developed will be used for transforming companies (of this sector) in the frame of industry 4.0 implementation concepts. A dashboard has been developed for measuring the company initial state and defining results which would be obtained after transformations (target). Then, the dashboard is composed of main performance criteria: cost, lead time, quality and social, societal and environmental aspects. Then, simulation is used as a tool for testing scenarios and choosing changes required by the company. In this paper a literature review will present existing concepts, methods and tools (theory of systems, Industry 4.0 concepts, etc.) which could be used for defining the general approach, the decision aided tool and the joinery reference model, in order to transform with success a joinery company. Then, the general approach and dashboard generic framework will be exposed. Finally, an example of a joinery company will be used for illustrating concepts and tools presented.
