Abstract The thermal and spatial stabilities of net optical densities (ODs) of a novel radiochromic polyvinyl alcohol-iodide (PVA-I) gel dosimeter were investigated in association with different levels of the degree of polymerization (DP) of PVA, which was necessary for the coloring process by irradiation. Four DP levels of PVA ranging from 500 to 3500 were used to compare the temporal change of net ODs under two different storage temperatures. As results, we concluded that the temporal changes in the coloring of the PVA-I gel dosimeter and its diffusion were independent of the DP of PVA.
