Abstract In the current work, we focused on the evaluation of thermal neutron doses in mixed gamma/thermal neutron field using borated Fricke gel with 23 ppm of 10B isotope. The dose response using two measuring protocols and the optical density stability of borated-Fricke gel (BFG) dosimeter were studied for low dose rate of thermal neutron beam from Am-Be source. The performance parameters of BFG were calculated where the critical level and the detection limit were found to be 7 and 13 mGy, respectively. The radiation yield for BFG was found to be 338 ions per 100 eV of thermal neutron dose. This kind of gels may help in the dosimetry of thermal neutrons used in boron neutron capture therapy technique and also in the industrial applications.
