Objective Lack of physical activity in obese persons is a major problem which is amplified by presence of non-medical obstacles. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of one week of a physical education program created at the CHRU of Tours in the MPR unit to optimize obese patient management. The hypothesis was that improvement of outcome measures was better after the one-week physical education program that after a medical consultation with only oral advice. Material/patients and methods It was a monocentric and prospective study carried out in routine care, for which 30 obese adults was assessed to 1 to 3 months before hospitalization (T0) in a medical consultation where oral advices were given only, at the first day of hospitalization (T1) and one month after (T2). The first outcome measure was kinesiophobia assessed with TSK score. The second was evaluation of fear avoidance with fear avoidance belief questionnaire, of quality of life with IWQOL-Lite score and of physical activity with IPAQ score and Dijon score. Results Variation of kinesiophobia between T1 and T0 was, 1.3 (P = 0.1029), variation of kinesiophobia between T2 and T1 was, 4.4 (P = 0.0001), and delta 2 (T2–T1) was statistically higher than delta1 (T1–T0), P = 0.003. Discussion, conclusion This study underlines that, concerning positive impact on kinesiophobia in obese persons, one week of physical education is more efficient than a simple medical consult.
