Abstract The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the production of positrons through nat Ne 2 D 4 He 18 F , nuclear reactions and its possible Cherenkov radiation (CR) before annihilating in the hot and dense plasma medium (pinch) of a Mather type dense plasma focus device (DPF). Numerical computations of dispersion relation in the pinch plasma medium showed that CR started at approximately E = 0.0645 MeV with the relativistic velocity of 0.46 m s . Furthermore, the positron loses its energy by collision with the background plasma at a rate approximated by Bethe-Bloch equation through the pinch plasma diameter of 3 cm and annihilates after traveling a distance of about 1 cm.
