Abstract The factorization method (FM) is a recently investigated non-iterative technique in various inverse scattering problems for the imaging (or identification) of unknown targets. Throughout various studies, it has been confirmed that FM is a fast, stable, and effective non-iterative imaging technique; however, there have been too few studies in terms of applications of microwave imaging. In this paper, we design an indicator function for FM from scattering matrix for a real-time microwave imaging. Experimental results with real data are show applicability and feasibility of FM in microwave imaging.
