Abstract This study was conducted to unravel the EBL mediated changes on the enzymes of proline metabolism under combined stress of aluminum and salt through varied mode of application. The results of the study revealed that application of EBL through different mode significantly increased the activities of P5CS and δ-OAT, proline content, photosynthetic efficiency and various enzymes of antioxidant system whereas, these parameters were further accelerated in the plants exposed to combined stress of aluminum and salt followed by EBL treatment. These findings indicate that exogenous application of EBL modified the activity of enzymes of proline metabolism and also scavenges the excess reactive oxygen species through improved activities of antioxidant enzymes which could have provided the ability to confer tolerance in wheat plants under combination of aluminum and salt stress.
