Session introduction Images of thousands of migrant workers trekking to distant home villages in India and of Venezuelan migrants walking an entire continent to find dignifying work gave a glimpse of the unequal impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Migrant workers, from construction sites in the Gulf States or farms in California to hospitality venues in any major city, are a major component of the global workforce. Why is their health & well-being grossly overlooked or ignored? Speakers share insights from different continents to explore factors that contribute to this neglect. This session will draw attention to the historic inequities and social determinants being exacerbated by the pandemic and provide avenues for action to exhort host countries and empower migrant workers to improve their working conditions.
