Abstract The aim of the present study was to determine the localization and expression of lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase (L-PGDS) in the testis and epididymis of the goat using western blot and immunohistochemistry. Western blot analysis showed the highest expression level of L-PGDS was observed in the epididymis, whereas L-PGDS was weakly expressed in the testis. Immunohistochemistry revealed that L-PGDS was localized in the epithelial cells and luminal fluid of the epididymis and in the spermatogenic cells of the testis. L-PGDS was clearly localized on the apical ridge of the acrosome cap, the principal piece, and the neck region in adult goat sperm. On the basis of the marked expression of L-PGDS in goat testis, epididymis and sperm, we suggest that L-PGDS is important for spermatogenesis and maturation of goat spermatozoa.
