Abstract The mild hydrothermal crystal growth technique has been leveraged to synthesize four new zero-dimensional transition metal fluorides. Their structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. The thermal, optical, and magnetic properties were investigated and the presence of thermal polymorphism and antiferromagnetism were observed. In addition, the potential application of these materials as precursors for advanced functional materials was explored.
