Abstract The dynamical behaviors of the three-soliton collisions are investigated for a dual-mode fiber coupler system, which is modeled as coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations describing optical pulse propagations. The three-soliton solutions are constructed by the bilinear method. A class of oscillating collisions is observed. The optical speckle intensity is controllable by setting parameters involved in soliton solution. It is valuable to inspire new ideas in optics and optical engineering.
