Abstract This study tried to understand the use of smart-work based on the concept of “appropriation” and examined the antecedents and consequences of smart-work use from a structuration and individual aspects simultaneously. A conceptual framework proposed in this study illustrates the antecedents of smart-work appropriation to explore how they influence task performance and job satisfaction. Most of the structuration and individual factors, drawn from adaptive structuration theory and technology acceptance model, were found to accelerate smart-work appropriation, which consequently raising task performance and job satisfaction. The usefulness of this study lies in its comprehensive approach that considers the antecedents and consequences of smart work appropriation by analyzing both structuration and individual dimensions, and this approach yields important implications for research and practice.
