Abstract With the nurse educator shortage, the importance of recruiting and retaining faculty is paramount. Often times, nurses transition into a novice academic nurse educator role from a clinical position in which they are experienced and knowledgeable. Therefore, this change can be challenging and requires support. A successful transition involves an extensive orientation, mentorship, and ongoing faculty development. The authors discuss modern academic advances, such as the expanding role of the online environment and incorporation of simulation pedagogy.
