Abstract Three tetraphenylethene-based compounds with different substituents were successfully synthesized. All these fluorescent molecules exhibited typical aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect. In addition, these luminogens showed various mechanochromic luminescence phenomena. Moreover, the mechanofluorochromic behavior of luminogen 1 was self-reversible.
