Abstract This study utilized a multilevel sample of 543 employees and 106 managers and structural equation modelling (SEM) to test the proposed hypotheses. The results showed the mediating role of the group-level work environment in the relationships between transformational leadership and individual-level social capital and human capital. Moreover, social capital and knowledge transfer mediate the relationship between human capital and creative behaviour. Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.
