Abstract This paper proposes a modified version of the conventional method for estimating traction curves based on creep theory. Although the conventional method features simple calculation and high estimation accuracy under high spin ratios, it requires identification of a temperature-dependent parameter for the traction curves measured for each target device. The proposed method estimates the traction curve while calculating this parameter depending on operating conditions and uses a variable parameter obtained from a newly developed empirical formula, thereby leading to higher estimation accuracy of traction curves than that of the conventional method.
