Abstract The current work investigates the tribological properties of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) with reduced graphene oxide (r-GO) as friction modifier (added on weight percentage basis). This biodegradable oil, a commercial mineral oil (CMO), and a cutting fluid were tested on four ball tribometer. The wear scars on the tested balls were analyzed using profilometer and high end optical microscope. The tribofilm formation was confirmed with energy dispersive system and micro Raman spectroscope. A significant enhancement in antiwear properties of CNSL was observed up to certain concentration of r – GO in CNSL.
