Abstract In the tilting pad of a thrust bearing, the oil film temperature is very sensitive to the inlet temperature boundary condition. Three methods, including the supply oil temperature method, the heat boundary layer method, and the hot oil carry-over method, were discussed and analyzed. In order to improve the accuracy of calculation results, a coupled computing model was established and calculated. A large bearing 1:1 experimental bench was designed to verify the rule of influence of thermal boundary layer. The experimental results show that the thermal boundary layer has a significant effect on the oil film temperature, which is consistent with the coupling calculated results. This paper provides data for large thrust bearing experiments and guidance for theoretical calculations.
