Abstract The mechanical and anisotropic properties of BiM2VO6 (M = Mg, Ca and Cu) ceramics were explored using the first-principles calculations. The 3D (three dimensional) surfaces and 2D (two dimensional) projections of Young's modulus confirm that BiM2VO6 ceramics exhibit the strong anisotropy along the different directions. The minimum thermal conductivity on the different crystal planes strongly depends on the directions for BiM2VO6 ceramics. Three BiM2VO6 ceramics are anisotropic in sound velocities along the different directions. We hope that the present results will be useful for the further development and applications of BiM2VO6 ceramics.
