Abstract WC-Ni3Al cermets were prepared using powder metallurgy methods and spark plasma sintering. The high temperature compressive properties of WC-Ni3Al cemented carbide with different Ni3Al content were investigated at 850 °C. The existence of antiphase boundary in the Ni3Al binder phase was found to improves the stress state in the WC matrix. Ni3Al can coordinate the deformation of WC more effectively, thus obtaining increased plasticity and strength. In addition, the dislocation movement and deformation mechanisms of the WC grains during high temperature compression were also studied. The results show that the (01 1 ‾ 0) plane in WC grain is the habit plane for slip at high temperature.
