Abstract A double pentagonal nested terahertz (THz) hollow core fiber (HCF) fabricated by a 3D printer is proposed in this paper, which is an improvement to our previous work. The proposed fiber effectively reduces fiber size while preserving the mechanical stability and transmission characteristics. Fiber parameters are optimized by numerical simulation, and the sample fabricated by the 3D printer is measured by a THz time domain spectroscopy system. Experimental results show an average transmission loss of 0.11 cm−1 in the range of 0.2 to 1 THz. And the minimum transmission loss is only 0.012 cm−1 at 0.922 THz. The transmission loss is even several orders of magnitude lower than that of the bulked photosensitive resin. In addition, the fiber shows high tolerance for bending.
