MONICA LIVADIOTTI and GIORGIO ROCCO, with contributions by Roberta Belli Pasqua, Antonello Fino, Giuseppe Mazzilli and Luciano Piepoli, EXORNATA AEDES: LA CURIA DEL FORO VECCHIO DI LEPTIS MAGNA (Monografie di archeologia libica XLVI; L’Erma di Bretschneider, Roma 2018). Pp. 468, figs. 368, 7 loose plans in pocket. ISBN 98-88-913-1743-8. EUR 350. The project of completing the scientific edition of the Libyan monuments excavated under Italian colonial rule (1912-47) was probably one of the most ambitious efforts of the late Antonino Di Vita. Many years after the completion of the excavations, Di Vita rightly felt that this debt of Italian archaeologists towards Libya should be eventually settled. In 2005 there appeared a comprehensive publication of the three temples along the NW side of the Forum Vetus at Lepcis Magna, raising scholarly interest and fostering debate.1 This had been preceded in 2001 by another important event, the creation of the Centro di documentazione e ricerca sull’archeologia dell’Africa settentrionale (CAS) at the University of Macerata, where a rich collection of archival documents, archaeological reports, notes, photographs and drawings was gathered, to the benefit of all students of Libya and N Africa generally.2
