Summary Early cancer detection should lead to an overall stage shift, less-intensive treatments and better patient outcomes. Current recommended screening programmes are limited to a handful of individual cancers. A multi-cancer early detection test that simultaneously detects and localises multiple cancers could reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with cancer.
