The article explores suicide and its causes. Particular focus is given to how suicide and its visibility are increased by the death of famous persons including designer Kate Spade, writer Hunter S. Thompson and singer Kurt Cobain. Additional topics discussed include insights on the topic from psychologist Jesse Bering, author of the book "Suicidal: Why We Kill Ourselves," how suicide has a genetic link and how concern for what others think can be a risk factor for suicide. Details on suicide prevention are also offered.
