The article reports on probability of increased adverse impact of solar storm owing to the fact that society now depends on electrical power grids, communications satellites and Global Positioning System (GPS). Topics discussed include benefit of solar radiation and particles in confronting solar storm; information on Carrington Event of 1859 which delivered electric shocks to telegraph operators.; and views of Edward Oughton, from University of Cambridge, on economic impact of solar storm.
