C,N-LiFePO4 mesocrystals were successfully prepared through topotactic conversion of ferric giniite using an ionic liquid as a carbon and nitrogen source, which provided a pathway for rapid electron transfer and shortened the Li+ diffusion distances. Thus, good cycling stability and rate capability are achieved, showing improvement using the strategy of mesocrystalline electrodes coated with N-doped carbon from an ionic liquid.
