A silver-catalyzed ring-opening difluoromethylthiolation/trifluoromethylthiolation of cycloalkanols including cyclopropanols, cyclobutanols, cyclopentanols, cyclohexanols and cycloheptanols was described. A variety of common functional groups such as fluoride, chloride, bromide, iodide, trifluoromethyl, cyano and ester groups were compatible.
