Poly (ethylene glycol)s (PEGs) terminated with platinum(II) complexes show dramatically blue-shifted emission bands and sharply increased luminescence quantum yields with increasing molecular weights of PEGs. Such dramatic changes stem from the structural transitions from lamellar to disordered, and sharply reduced π–π stacking interactions between the platinum(II) complexes.
