Formation of SO3 over a V2O5/TiO2 catalyst involves SO2 adsorption, SO2 oxidation and SO3 desorption. NOx promotes the SO2 oxidation due to the valence transition of vanadium. H2O or NH3 inhibits the SO3 desorption due to the formation of sulfate.
