A fluoride stabilized sulfur-substituted uranyl complex [U(O)(S)F2] was prepared for the first time via oxidation of U(0) by SOF2 in cryogenic matrixes. The electron withdrawing character of F in this neutral complex does not cause the oxidation of the sulfido ligand by U(vi), but increases the strength and covalency of the U-O and U-S bonds.
