Herein, we present a redox-relay strategy that enables the nickel-catalyzed, atom-economical coupling of isatins and allyl alcohols. This reaction is notable for its lack of requirement for additional ligands or reducing agents, and minimal catalyst usage (only 1%), thus meeting the principles of green chemistry. Mechanistic studies have shown that allyl alcohols act as both reductants and precursors for α,β-unsaturated ketones in the reaction.
