Under the backdrop of increasingly severe global environmental issues and energy crises, anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs) are considered a highly promising green energy solution due to their fast response and low dependence on precious metal catalysts. However, insufficient device stability has always been a key factor restricting the industrialization of AEMWEs. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively review and summarize the strategies for improving the stability of AEMWEs from different perspectives. Firstly, this review provides a comprehensive summary of the three core bottlenecks affecting the stability of AEMWEs. Then, it elaborates on the latest research strategies for enhancing the stability of AEMWEs from three dimensions: durable catalyst design, reduction of bubble adhesion, and local microenvironment regulation, and explains their working principles and mechanisms. Finally, it analyzes the further challenges faced by AEMWEs in terms of stability improvement and proposes potential solutions for the future. We aim to build a comprehensive and systematic understanding of enhancing the stability of AEMWEs and accelerate their development in industrial production.
