Counselling hospital work with research projects is really challenging in today's working environment and embarking on an academic career can profoundly impacts on the personal and family life. As a medical doctor, I achieved a PhD in Science while keeping a clinical activity, which led me to develop multidisciplinary collaboration and research projects. Finding the right balance between leading such projects and having a personal and family life can be tricky and is a daily challenge. Based on my experience, I wish to discuss the main barriers and challenges that doctor scientists have to face and to provide a few tips on how I handled hospital work, research projects and family life.
