is programmed in to a very complex system, complete always with approximations and smoothing algorithms and so forth. To cover all that would need another book the same size and run the risk of scaring off the early career researcher. Other omissions that nevertheless get decent mentions are past climates, planetary climates, geo-engineering (i.e. devising ways of ameliorating climate change by human intervention, e.g. cloud seeding writ large) and nuclear winter. Again, there are pointers to find some good discussion of these things if needed. All in all, I rate this a splendid addition to the university library or the bookshelf of the early career researcher in this rapidly growing field.
